This role is for an Account Manager responsible for managing commercial activities and customer relationships with a major Japanese OEM.
You will act as a key customer interface, working closely with purchasing, engineering, production, validation, and management-level stakeholders. The role is commercially focused, but also requires a good understanding of automotive technology, project flow, and Tier 1 supplier operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily communication with customer contacts in Japan
- Handle commercial topics including pricing, quotations, tooling, change requests, annual price reductions, and cost recovery
- Support customer negotiations and commercial agreements
- Coordinate with internal global teams across multiple time zones
- Track customer satisfaction and support long-term account strategy
- Prepare reports and updates for senior management
- Support budget planning and account strategy development
- Manage awarded business, extensions, follow-on opportunities, and change requests
- Coordinate customer surveys, investigations, and internal responses
- Maintain strong relationships with customer stakeholders
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry
- Experience working with Japanese OEM customers
- Strong understanding of automotive OEM processes
- Commercial, account management, sales, or program-related experience
- High-level understanding of automotive hardware or software systems
- Business-level English and fluent Japanese
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to work with financial data, business cases, and P&L-related topics
- Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and general MS Office skills
- Ability to work with global teams and drive topics to completion
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with Subaru or Honda
- Experience at a Tier 1 supplier
- Background in audio, infotainment, connectivity, ADAS, or related automotive electronics
- Engineering or business-related degree
- MBA or master’s degree is a plus
